Following the very enthusiastic feedback received on “Healing Codependency”, we have responded to requests to offer a Part 2 - “Beyond Codependence”.

Beyond Codependence will focus on supporting individuals and couples in addressing daily and extraordinary challenges to trust, intimacy and growth. These will include the case material that therapist’s often find most challenging such as repetitive arguments, intimacy impasse and abusive communication and behavior.

This weekend training, like Part 1 will be highly experiential and accompanied by supportive theory, a practical workbook and slides to support your ongoing learning. Participation offers ground-breaking applications and paradigms to immediately enhance your work with individuals and couples, while strengthening your own self-care.

The premise of this work will be that people need healthy relational conditions to grow and thrive, which include challenge and freedom as much as security and acceptance. Living and loving exist within change and loss, not despite these inevitable experiences.

Course Aims

As with Part 1, curiosity, respect for difference and ability for use-of-self are requisites for fullest benefit. Participation in exercises and live application will enhance learning and integration with your existing practice. The material offered is adaptable to your own style, authentic presence and use of real-time challenges in your own experience.

Issues such as verbal and physical flashpoints, resentment and dissatisfaction will be addressed with processes that can offer individuals, couples and groups immediate realignment towards better communication, understanding and balance. Crisis points in relationships and repetitive patterns of conflict will be assessed and attended using the “Continuous Becoming” frame and “Push-Me-Pull-You”, “Intimacy Wheel”, “DIP in the POND” and “Shared Code” models.

We will explore how difference in needs can transform from perceived flaw in a relationship to a shared strength, as we move with life rather than struggle against it.

Course Content

Day 1 From Recognition to Communication of Needs

  • Review of the impact of awareness of dependency patterns since Part 1
  • Understanding Equality in a relationship as different from “the same as”
  • Personal Exploration of Relationship Triggers and Patterns
  • Different Needs, Quotas and Rhythms
  • Why Power Struggles occur at times of Change and No-Change
  • A Systemic Assessment Tool to Grow Compassion, Safety and Possibility
  • Simple Strategies to move beyond Impasse

We will identify those moments and patterns that destroy intimacy and lead to conflict. Practices will be offered to help individuals and couples who experience psychological, verbal or physical abuse, so they may begin processes of building understanding and respect for self and each other.

We will introduce ways to activate enhanced communication and understanding of our own and others’ needs and relational riches.

The experience of “lonely together” will be shared and reviewed as blocked or mis-timed opportunities for intimacy and we will explore practical exercises that individuals and couples can apply for themselves.

Day 2

  • Exploring the Dynamics of Trigger Contexts
  • Tracking, Dissolving and Redirecting Micro Patterns of Conflict
  • Emergency Measures that reduce emotional and physical peril during fights
  • Moving beyond blame, shame and claim
  • Releasing compulsive patterns that obstruct emotional healing
  • How Alone-ness can lead the way to genuine intimacy
  • Finding a Voice for Un-named Feelings and Needs
  • Asserting Healthy Boundaries and Personal Responsibility

This day will take us into advanced interventions for working with Individuals and Couples who have experienced the chronic traumas of living apart together. We will idenitfy how loneliness, shame and fear of intimacy are neurologically linked, and open pathways to healing from rejection. A day to explore how to rekindle the courage to live and love fully.

Learning & assessment

This is an experiential training, during which you will have an opportunity to learn inside-out, from your own human needs for intimacy, belonging, meaning, freedom and security. Practical exercises will provide opportunities for trying out applications and integrating with your existing expertise.

Curiosity, respect for difference and ability for use-of-self are requisites for fullest benefit.

There is no formal assessment however 90% attendance is required for award of Certificate of Attendance.
