This two day training is one of BeeLeaf’s highly acclaimed series of events that address the major challenges for today’s psychotherapist. Our warm community of Contemporary Psychotherapists welcome colleagues from diverse approaches and experience to a mutually enriching group experience.

This training provides you with 12 hours of CPD from a UKCP Accredited Training Provider and Organisational Member.

Course Content 

DAY 1 

Different Models and Descriptions of Personality and Process

The basic premises of the personality disorder model

  • What is personality disorder?
  • How is personality disorder recognised in different people?
  • Getting a diagnosis - why and how to support a person in this process?

Addressing controversies, fears and confusions around diagnosis

  • Why is the diagnosis so controversial?
  • Common myths and stigma

Brief introduction to existing therapies for personality disorder

  • What is in the NICE Guidelines?
  • What is available from the NHS for people with these needs?
  • What are the common qualities underlying all evidence-based treatment?

The less pathologizing perspectives

  • The Spectrum (instead of categorical) approach
  • Schema-based approaches

 

DAY 2

Reflection on homework and yesterday’s learning

Practical guidance on working with people diagnosed with personality disorder

  • Helpful and Unhelpful responses
  • The dialectical stance: Holding both validation and change
  • Dealing with challenging behaviours- Metallisation principles
  • Responding to self-harm

Clinicians’ wellbeing

  • A space for the clinicians’ emotional reactions
  • Reflecting on the clinicians’ own schemas
  • Developing your capacity to work with people with personality disorder

Learning & assessment 

The learning will include presentations, experiential exercises, pair work, watching video - offering a balance of informative, interactive and experiential learning.

 

Curiosity, respect for difference and ability for use-of-self are requisites for fullest benefit.

There is no formal assessment however 90% attendance is required for award of Certificate of Attendance.

Imi Lo

Imi is a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist, HCPC Registered Art Therapist, and Social Worker.
She specialises in the topics of emotional intensity, sensitivity, and borderline  (emotional unstable) personality disorder. Imi she offers a unique perspective that combines scientific therapy approaches and more artistic and intuitive methods to help people address deep-rooted emotional patterns.  Read more

Entry Requirements 

This course is for Psychotherapists, Counsellors, other Mental Health Clinicians and Advanced Trainees in these fields.

When we receive your booking form you will then be asked for the following information before your place is confirmed.

If you cancel within 14 days of your booking being confirmed a full refund will be given.  No refund will be given if you cancel more than 14 days after a booking has been confirmed.
