Marie qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 1990 and worked within a range of inpatient and community settings in the NHS and local authority across adult, young person and children services. She is a Full Member of the Nursing Midwifery Council, Royal College of Nursing and Community for Contemporary Psychotherapy. Marie holds a BSC Mental Health and MSC in adolescent addiction.
Marie has a wide range of experience within the field of mental health and addiction including the delivery of both front line and therapeutic interventions, in London and Essex.
She has successfully developed and managed two addiction services, the first one being for adults with comorbid mental health and substance use disorder, from which a football team was created that went on to compete in a European Mental Health tournament in 2002. From 2004 – 2018, Marie developed and managed a young person’s substance misuse service providing range of medical and therapeutic treatment interventions for those up to aged 21.
Marie was a freelance trainer for the Pan London Dual Diagnosis Project 2002 – 2003 for Institute of Psychiatry, for which she trained mental health professionals in London and Birmingham areas.
Marie has provided training on behalf of both the NHS and local authority sector for professionals, parents and carers. She has delivered training to range of community groups within the voluntary sector including youth projects, St John’s Ambulance, counselling services and foster carers. Specific subject areas have included general addiction awareness, treatment and crisis management; risk management for mental health, impact of parental substance use on children (hidden harm), foetal alcohol syndrome, comorbid mental health and substance use disorder and treatment for depression.
Marie currently works within the NHS as a Pathway Lead for Mood and Anxiety, Emotional wellbeing and Mental Health Service (EWMHS) with children and young people. She is also practicing as an Adult Psychotherapist within a local counselling charity and is working towards full UKCP Accreditation having graduated from BeeLeaf with the Advanced Diploma in Contemporary Psychotherapy.
